The CareerZeus is looking for freelancers to work with him on an as-needed basis. This is a remote, location-independent job. If you are based in the eastern parts of the Americas, you will need to be prepared to get on calls with me in your early mornings or late evenings. That includes on weekends.
The Job
Based on certain inputs you will receive from me, you will draft complete résumés for my clients. Based on feedback from the client, the draft will usually need some revisions. A focused writer can complete each job in three hours, or even less. Initial drafts, once you accept a job, must be turned around in 36 hours. You will have no contact with the clients, and the ultimate responsibility for each résumé lies with me.
Inputs from me will include:
Existing resume of the client (anonymized)
Edited and annotated transcript of the client interview I have conducted.
Verbal guidance from me on what to highlight, and what to omit.
A fully formatted "skeleton résumé" for each client that already has all the headers, job titles, dates, locations, etc.
I will provide initial training and a written style guide with examples.
Pay
After the initial training period, each job pays US$150. This is for each completed draft and revisions as needed by the client. The pay is unrelated to the time you spend on the work. As this is a freelance job, the fixed fee is the only compensation. There are no social security or other benefits.
During the initial training period, which may (or may not) extend over up to three completed jobs, the pay per job is $100. The initial training period will also serve as a trial during which both sides can decide whether they wish to continue the collaboration, or not.
Payment of each job happens within two calendar weeks of completion. Usually, it will be faster. Payment is made by either PayPal or crypto, depending on your preference.
Requirements Of The Job
Native or near-native English language skills.
Reasonably strong writing skills, including a strong command of grammar (a professional writing background is welcome but not a requirement).
Strong familiarity with MS Word.
PC with MS Word installed, and Internet access (it really must be MS Word; the online version may suffice).
Good understanding of the business world, and several years of experience with some sort of corporate or agency white-collar job.
Ability to handle (at least) one job per week.
Ability to turn around jobs in 36 hours.
Your profile
This gig is ideal for someone who likes to work on their own with minimal interpersonal contact. Introverts are very welcome. You will have worked in some sort of corporate or agency job in the past (or may still be working in such a job at present). For example, you might have experience with an HR, finance, marketing, or customer service department of a major corporation, or you might have worked with an executive search or corporate communications agency. You frequently enjoy reading business-related articles in outlets like The Financial Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Economist, or Bloomberg. You know what a financial controller does, and what the difference between an HR specialist and an HR generalist is. You can - at least superficially - explain what the M&A people in an investment bank do, what segmentation in a marketing context means, and what the characteristics of a good sales executive are.
Apart from those things, you've always enjoyed expressing yourself in writing, and you are good at it. Back in high school, you usually got straight As in your English exams.
Who should not apply
This job isn't great for extroverts or people who need constant novelty and challenges. It's a pretty routine type of work. Entrepreneurial or artistic types will not enjoy this.
Interested?
If yes, please contact me at axel [at] career-zeus [dot] com with an explanation of your current situation and how much time you could spend on this job per week. Please also include an up-to-date resume. (Don't worry - this is not a test. I'm not going to evaluate your application based on the quality of your resume.)
Please be prepared to demonstrate the qualities I am looking for in an interview and through a brief writing exam.
